Is the Silver Rate Per Gram or Per Kg?

Per gram. The archive's column is headed "1 Gm Silver": rupees for one gram, before any shop charge or tax. A Nagercoil shop's board rate may differ from it, and a bill today adds the shop's making charge and GST to the metal value. Every kilogram figure on this page is that gram rate times 1,000, including for the years when the archive carried a kilogram column of its own.

Is It the Rate for 999 or 925 Silver?

The rate names no fineness. No row in the archive states one, and the current rate is printed under "1 Gm Silver" with no fineness beside it either. So it is not 999, 925, sterling or "pure" silver, and a shop's rate for a named fineness is a different figure. The gold series is read as 22K because the same figure is labelled "1 Gm Gold 22Kt". Silver carries no such label.

Revisions, Gaps and the Figures Left Out

• What a day holds. Every silver rate held for that day, in time order: the first and, on most days before 2023, a second one in the afternoon. The chart, the summary figures, the "Last" columns and the year-wise table use the day's final rate.
• Revisions over the years. From 2006 to 2022 the silver rate moved more than once on 5,029 of 5,215 trading days, and a day's last rate was a median ₹0.10 from its first. Since 2023 it has done so on 99 of 1,171 days, with a median move of ₹1.
• Missing dates. A date with no row means no rate is held for it. Sundays account for 1,077 of the 1,186 calendar days without a row since 2 January 2006; the others include the national holidays of 26 January, 15 August and 2 October. A gap alone does not prove no rate was issued, so the lookup shows the previous available rate under its own date instead of carrying it forward.
• Flags in the table. "Flagged for review" marks a day with a rate more than 8% away from the surrounding trading days; the series has 40 of them. The figure is shown unchanged rather than smoothed. Some sit among other high figures published over several days, as in late January 2026, and some are out of line with the same day's other publication, such as ₹280 at 9:32 am on 3 February 2026 against ₹300 at 2:45 pm.
• The figures left out. "One publication excluded" marks a day where a figure that was zero or more than 40% away from its neighbours was dropped. There are 7 in the whole series. One is 0.00, at 6:21 pm on 7 April 2020, after ₹45.30 at 10:30 am the same day. The rest each stand at least 10 times the rate published on their own day: ₹2,040 at 3:30 pm on 13 January 2007, against ₹20.40 at 10:30 am. On 20 March 2015 and 24 September 2016 the archive's morning row holds each column's figure in the other's place: the gram cell carries the kilogram figure and the kilogram cell the gram one. A dropped figure is never corrected or averaged; the day carries the mark instead.
• Corrections. "Corrected at source" marks a figure that was corrected after the day it was issued; none has been so far. When one happens the old value is kept beside the new one and the day is marked.
