Jos Alukkas has two showrooms in Nagercoil: on K.P. Road near Gopala Pillai Hospital, and on Avvai Shanmugam Salai in Meenakshipuram, open since August 2026. The Jos Alukkas group, based in Thrissur, dates its gold business to 1964. Jos Alukkas' 22K gold rate on 25 September was ₹14,010 a gram, ₹1,12,080 a pavan (8 grams), the same as 25 September's Nagercoil gold rate. Its Google listings give the K.P. Road showroom's hours as 10:00 am to 8:00 pm and the Meenakshipuram showroom's as 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, every day.

In Nagercoil, Jos Alukkas sells 22K (916) gold jewellery, 24K (999) gold coins and bars, and 18K jewellery, mostly contemporary and diamond-set pieces. The range runs from bridal sets, temple jewellery, antique-finish necklaces, kasu malas and vanki bangles to lightweight daily wear, with diamond, platinum and silver jewellery beside it, and it makes pieces to order, such as engagement rings.
Jos Alukkas 916 HUID hallmark and purity
Jos Alukkas says all its gold jewellery in Nagercoil is BIS hallmarked with a HUID. Kanyakumari district has been under mandatory BIS hallmarking since 2021. The six-character HUID is stamped on the piece: check it in the BIS Care app before you pay. A code belongs to one article, so read the piece the record describes against the piece in your hand.

Jos Alukkas prices a piece in four lines.
- Gold value. The net weight, stones excluded, at its rate for that purity.
- Stones. Any stones, priced on their own line.
- V.A. Its charge for making the piece, a whole percentage of the gold value. The 22K pieces carry no separate making-charge or wastage line, so the V.A. is the whole of it; elsewhere the same work can arrive as two lines.
- GST. 3% of the other three lines together, so the V.A. is taxed at the same rate as the metal.

Across those 80 pieces, V.A. ran from 19% to 40% of the gold value. Each percentage point of V.A. adds ₹1,121 to a pavan of 22K at Jos Alukkas' 22K rate of 25 September, so the ends of that range are ₹23,537 apart on a pavan before GST. To set a Jos Alukkas price against another shop's quote, take that shop's making charge and wastage together as a share of the same gold value, at the same rate per gram. Its own V.A. is already a share of the gold value, so it is the other quote that has to be converted. No rule fixes a V.A. or a making charge, so hold a quote from another of the Nagercoil jewellery showrooms to that test. Estimate the bill for the weight you have in mind.

Jos Alukkas gold scheme
Jos Alukkas' Easybuy plan is a monthly purchase plan that you join and pay online. It saves money rather than gold weight, so what you buy with it is billed at the gold rate and the V.A. of the day you buy.

A minor cannot join, and you can name a nominee. Its scheme site also describes monthly plans that save by weight or amount, and a one-time advance that locks the gold rate on the day you pay, but it publishes terms only for Easybuy.
Before you join a Jos Alukkas gold scheme
- "Is the special discount exactly one instalment, and what does it come off?" The terms call it only "like One Instalment Amount", so ask whether it is ₹2,000 on a ₹2,000 plan and whether it is taken off the gold, the V.A. or the bill.
- "Which V.A. will my purchase carry?" The plan buys at the V.A. of the day. Ask whether an offer running that day applies to a plan purchase too.
- "What happens if I miss a month?" The terms say an instalment cannot be postponed, and that eleven or ten instalments earn less discount. Ask whether a plan short of that is closed and refunded, and when.
- "Is there a showroom plan that fixes the gold weight, and on what terms?" None is published. Have the terms written down before you pay anything.
Jos Alukkas returns, exchange and old gold
Jos Alukkas' published return policy covers online orders. It takes a piece back only if it arrives damaged or defective and you ask within 7 days of delivery, with the piece unused and in its packaging with its tags and invoice. Shipping and service charges come off the refund. Custom and special orders, nose pins, gold and silver coins, gift cards and pieces under 1 g cannot be returned. It publishes no return terms for a purchase made in a showroom, so ask either Nagercoil showroom for its own and have them written on the bill.
For old gold, Jos Alukkas says its showrooms take old designs in exchange for new ones and run exchange offers on old gold jewellery that has no HUID, and it promises 100% value for diamonds exchanged for new diamond jewellery. It publishes no rate, deduction or buyback terms behind any of these, and no deduction is standard: nothing in the hallmarking rules or the tax on jewellery fixes or caps one. A buying rate for old gold is the shop's own figure. Before you exchange, ask in writing which rate it pays for your gold's purity, how it tests the purity and what it deducts, and work out your old gold's value first.
